I must apologize for not being around to much to reply to your work or thank you for your kind comments on my images Rafik.

For this image, what I like is the background and the pose and the good close shot. What I feel would improve the shot, needs more light on the head area to balance the shot a little better, maybe some fill flash? also for my taste it is a little tight in the frame. Because the head and the wing are in heavy shadow it doesn't bring out enough detail of the feathers.

Still, I like this shot and the above are only suggestions based on my own tastes and experience, I hope you don't take offense Rafik.

Sincerely,

Dave

Thanks julio and david for your nice comments.

David: I am not offended at all by your critiques or by any critiques that are constructive like the ones u have suggested.

About the light, i tried this very same shot with a fill flash (sb-800) on camera, however the results were not very good. You know what david, i am finding that fill flash is very hard to master, there are too many variables, the amount of light behind the subject, lighting around the subject and the distance between you and the subject as well.

I actuallydont like the sharpness on teh face of the bird in this shot, the profile portrait of this bird that i posted earlier has the best details i shot of this heron type.

Anyhow thanks a lot David for taking the time to comment and to stopby,

best regards, RK!

Rafik, this is a great night heron shot in every aspect except that I too feel the crop is a little bit tight. I think the most characteristic features of the night heron are their red eyes and white plumes on the head and you manage to catch both well.

I think this may be the best of your Bird shots. I like most everything about this image. I also like the background where there seem to be a big leaf fanning out towards the bird. Great stuff man.

Best regrds.

I echo everyone else's views: nice photo! I like how the background isn't too intrusive, but complements the bird nicely in the way that the fan palm curves like the curve of its crest.

Rafik, this is a beautiful shot, the detail is wonderful. I would love to see a little space above his head. You often say IMHO, so I'll say IM Very HO, if they pick their head up and are out of the frame or hit it it's a little too tight.

Thanks for the stop, glad u like it, a lot of people tell me about the tight crop, your point is very well taken. I just am inclined to have tighter crops:)

thanks again mary, RK!
