Sunrise Portknockie

ian cameron

Location: Portknockie, Moray, Scotland.A summer dawn at the cliffs overlooking the Moray Firth at Portknockie. It was an extraordinary morning (if you can call 4am, morning). Near the Bow Fiddle arch that makes this place famous, a pod of 30 - 50 dolphins were leaping out of the water, some perfoming somersaults. A celebration of the new day or just rejoicing in some of the finest light I have seen. This has not been "adjusted" in photoshop it is virtually identical to the velvia original. Velvia has its own pallette that happens to be in accordance with my memory of this very beautiful morning. Please take a look at some new images recently uploaded to Transient Light and Timecatcher.

A fantastic 4am sunrise off the Moray coast at Portknockie. The sky

has not been "adjusted" in PS. This is Velvia's own unique colour

pallette which just so happens to match very well my memory of the

briefest appearances of the sun I can remember. The sky went steely

grey a minute or so later.

Ian, this is an incredible image with a terrific composition and exquisite tones and wonderful light. My favorite film: Velvia. This is why. -David

Congratulations for using film for nature. Gets the digi-heads confused, they think it must gave been 'shopped. Capture, exposure, composition, perspective all superior.

Great composition, the lighting is just right. It is nice to see a image from my old haunts lived in Buckie for years.

As always, this photo is superb. What can I say? You are a continual inspiration. If I could just get out of this city...

I often find myself looking at the photos on this site and thinking "that's it! That's what I want to do!" This site shows so much talent for a beginner such as myself to marvel at. No where is that more evident than right here. Thanks for sharing.

That's one wonderful and soft image Ian, one of your very best in my opinion. The range of colors captured here really make me wonder if I should make the reverse move from digital to slide film (which has been occupying my mind for some time now).

Incidentally you seem to have another photograph from this same location, but less aesthetically appealing in my opinion http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2353544&size=lg

Keep up the good work!

Hi Asutosh, you are right the first image was scanned on a flat bed and was taken almost a year to the day earlier. Although the conditions weren't exactly similar the visual echoes are very striking.

So the film digital stooshie rumbles on. I have to say that this is wonderful quality and Ian Cameron knows that I enjoy his work greatly, and respect him as a photographer of some esteem.

Now...this film image has been scanned and turned into a digital image, yes, do we all agree? It's impossible to have the same degree of light on the sunset as the headland, agree? Therefore there must have been some manipulation, Agree?

I have had the best part of 50 years professional experience in photography and I really don't see why we can go into a darkroom and burn and dodge and pour cold water on bits of a print and hot on others, etc when if you do that digitally you become a photographic criminal.

Wonderful work my friend, as ever your photography is of the highest quality,

Dougie
