spectrum photography 0 Posted February 8, 2002 I think it would have been better shot horizontally. The runners are out of or too near the edges. Link to comment
valerie 0 Posted February 8, 2002 Agreed. I think the color and vibrancy of the photography are excellent, however, and I particularly like the background color of the track; and good capture of expressions on the runners. Link to comment
ed_berman6 0 Posted February 8, 2002 To improve *this* photo just crop off the top and the bottom. Otherwise agree with previous posters. Link to comment
SolaresLarrave 2 Posted February 8, 2002 Great Shot. Yes, you want to crop a bit, but the color and the tension are priceless. You shot this with KChrome 64? Technical info would help. In any case, you got a neat image here. Link to comment
blago 0 Posted February 9, 2002 Yes, Marty, it is better in the "landscape" format, but then it is difficult to keep the group against the track only. The outstanding colors and the feeling of strain are the main values of the photo, IMO. Blago Link to comment
jean_schweitzer 0 Posted February 10, 2002 Well captured. I do not fully agree with the comments above I think that one of the strong point in the picture is the curve, but I can agree that the women need more room on the right so maybe the solution would have to zoom a little bit less? Anyway it is a great sport shot. I would be interested to know what you think about all our comments, I guess that you have an idea when you chose this frame or did you have to react in a hurry? Thanks for sharing, jean Link to comment
m._ort 0 Posted February 10, 2002 Thanks for all the comments. The technical stuff is straight forward -- I shot with my 300mm lens on a monopod using the sunny f16 rule -- resulting in an exposure of about f8 at 1/250. The photo was made early in the race while the runners were still well bunched. Later on they spread out more, making this kind of shot less effective. Yes, I wanted to see the curved lane markers in the top and bottom of the frame -- that was the main idea. I agree a bit more room on the right would be desireable -- I was not able to "zoom out" because I was not using a zoom lens. And even had I been farther away, lots of distracting field event equipment would have been in the frame at the top and sides. Kind regards, m. Link to comment
bart_w._van_lith1 0 Posted August 15, 2002 In a way a very tradition sports shot, but very beautiful and unique in it's own right. Just like the rest of your portfolio. Great job ! Link to comment
mike_sea 0 Posted February 23, 2003 Hi M. Ort, I like the framing of the shot with nothing but track in the frame. Nice angle. The shot itsdelf however seems to be lacking something that stands out and really makes me want to explore the shot to see what's happening. If I wasn't rating the shot and passing comment, I would have found it difficult to engage in the shot. I would like to see a little space out in front of the runners. As a general rule, crop a moving object tight from behind but give it space in front. The faster it is moving the more space is a general rule but before too long you will get a feel for this. darryn patch sydney austr 0 Posted May 13, 2003 Hey MORT how many times are you going to post this photo for critique this is about the 4th time I've seen it in 5 weeks get over it. Its a reasonable shot. Now give us something different. Or are you just trying to amass a large number of veiws. Link to comment
joe_garrick 0 Posted June 29, 2003 are you just trying to amass a large number of veiwsWell, I think that's the entire point of posting it for critique - get more views and hopefully more comments. Back to the photo... I have to agree about having space for them to run into, but I don't think a more horizontal crop does much to improve it. It feels more normal that way, but you lose the curves of the track.Even without the space in front of the runners, it's a good photo. Link to comment
