Mellon Udrigle is tucked away on the northwest coast near Gruinard Bay. It is a beautiful sandy beach backed by impressive mountains, on a sunny day it is a very fine place to be and all but deserted. Draining into the sea and crossing it in dark brown rivulets is a peat stream. The combination of red sand and dark golden, peat enriched water, produces a trail of lurid colours especially when combined with a glorious blue sky day. Please take a look at some new images recently uploaded to Transient Light and Timecatcher.

The lurid colours of rivulets from a peat stream flowing over the red

sandy beach of Mellon Udrigle on the northwest coast of Scotland

combine to create a bewildering display of colour in combination with

a blue cloud flecked sky.

Who would have thought that such a scene was from Scotland? This is a great advert for Scotland and it has increase my interest in going there. The polariser has really helpde the shot too. Great tone and composition.

Those blues are really unbelievably vivid- other hues are equally rich- If this is polarized, I'm going to slap my filter on more frequently-

It's not just polarizer but also a neutral density filter, according to the description. Great job employing the ND, I suspect that's what made the shot.

Ian, I'm glad that you said 'lurid' first. What film were you using? Your posting shots like this is helping me build the courage to post a load of New Zealand postcards.

Hi Jeff Velvia 50, my last batch sob!! It was infact the highish sun, polariser and Velvia that combined to produce these colours it is as always as near a match as possible to my original tranny.

Always such a pleasure to view your work - it never ceases to delight!

Fantastic lines and details and the low angle lends a sensual surreal touch.

Looks like a pacific resort rather than Scotland but a fine shot. The foreground really gives impact to the scene. Can't have been easy to deal with what looks like a bright sunlit day.

Good luck on Skye Richard. If the weather is charitable there are very few places that compare. Don't forget to take the pilgrimage to Elgol.
