Morning workers (improved? version)

jean_schweitzer

Thank you for your comments, I took note and have tried to correct a bit. I'm rather happy with this one even if I can still see some potential improvements. Thanks again for the positive input.Jean

Improved ? No... Certainly not. We have lost here quite a bit of the magic I found in the first one. First of all, it is a known fact for centuries that sqaued compositions are perfect to match the feeling of peace. Then there is now 1 single element I see: 1 of the weeds, bigger and brighter than many and close to the centre... That's absolutely wrong in my opinion... The main subject is not this or that particular part of this image: the squared version worked as a total entity, and this one doesn't... I'm as convinced as one can be that the other version was better... Open for discussion, and I shall return (as they say in star wars) to check on its progress... I bet you too prefer the first one... Am I wrong with this assumption ?...

Thank you very much for your (like always) useful comments. I do not know how it is for you or other photographers, but at a certain point looking and working at my pictures I'm becomming "blind" and unable of really decide what I prefer. Ususally after few days without seing the picture recover some of my critical capacity. I liked the first one, its imperfections and composition. But I was confused by the remarks and I tried to improve the picture the way it was suggested. The point is that the picture can be improved, but I'm not able to improve it myself, not being skilled enough to make the change needed. Looking back on the 2 pictures again, I clearely prefer the first one, as you say the "improved" one is too dull and badly composed.

So I learned something again here, thank you , I'm glad you took time to look at my pictures, I feel I have been progressing at your contact, you are a constructive and positive person.

Jean,

I've been perusing your portfolio and like very much what I have seen. I appreciate the diversity of your work. It says not so much that you excel at any one style of photography, but rather at seeing. Your work reflects an infinite wonder at the world, an ability to continually see things in fresh perspective. That is the lifeblood of good photography, and a very enviable quality to have as a photographer.

As for the image at hand, I can sympathize with becoming too familiar with your own work. I often find it takes me weeks or months--sometimes longer--to view what I have with any objectivity. Concerning this particular photo, I prefer the lesser cropped of the two. It has more perspective and seems less cloistered than the other. The dimensions also seem more familiar or friendly (?). Again, nice work on your nice work.
