drfl 0 Posted May 3, 2006 Is the foreground presented in this photograph to expansive with not enough focus on the log in the water? In an effort to continually improve my photography I welcome any comments. Thank You Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted May 3, 2006 Hello Derrald, I think your positioning of the log in the frame is pretty much perfect. The image is very dramatic, with some very fine colours. If I were to do this any differently, it would be to take the photo with out the cloud. It's difficult to know what is the main subject with such a prominent cloud there. Regards. will king 0 Posted May 4, 2006 Derrald, another spectacular shot with great color and composition. If my eyes or monitor aren't deceiving me, the only feedback I would offer on this shot would be to pull your hard grad nd up just a bit. It seems the grad starts right below the horizon line which is only noticeable on the left side. I think by pulling the filter up just a bit, the grad would have started right at the trees thus making it less noticeable. Link to comment
afs760bf 0 Posted May 4, 2006 Terrific shot, Derrald. The only comment I would make is that I find it interesting that the sunlight on the right side of the frame seems to come under and cover the cloud. Usually, it would look somewhat like the other side with the cloud in front. Anyway, the foreground is well done, with the log providing a nice resting place for the eyes. Best Regards, Barry Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted May 5, 2006 Absolutely wonderful image. I have no critique. I can't find a thing out of place. The color and tones are flawless throughout. The composition is not just lucky but perfectly executed. Link to comment
beechcomber 0 Posted May 5, 2006 is the water movement from a river or the tide...it adds to the composition makes the log more interesting for me. not a profesional so cant critique that way. my eyes tell me that you've got a masterpiece though Link to comment
newfocus 0 Posted May 5, 2006 Sometimes single objects like this in the foreground can look detached from the rest of the image, but in this case it works really well. The ripples in the foreground really add to the shot. A fantastic shot all round. I hope you don't mind but I wanted to see how this would look with a 2 stop grad on the sky rather than a three (with the aim of balancing the water and sky brightness just slightly) and guessed it would be something like this. Just an alternative rather than a suggestion in particular. Can't fault the original. John. Link to comment
