contributes to their tough-guy look.

I was hoping someone who remembers the Blues Brothers would see this, but if they had, I'm sure they would have commented, so I'm posting a photo that explains the title for anyone who might still wander by. I'm sure the little knick-knack in this photo is based on a publicity photo from the movie, but I can't seem to find the original.
