Blue Angels Lucky Shot.

rob hall

with 2X converter. I was tracking the plain on the left as it came across the field, I got lucky and the other plane was in frame.

Frightening.

I can't help but to notice that the plan on the left, in particular, looks "pasted". I'm sure i'm wrong though.

Great shot! I know from experience how difficult it is to get both aircraft in the same frame, much less this close together. I managed it once in probably 20 attempts at four different air shows. As far the "pasted" look, that is because you can only get the plane you are tracking in sharp focus when using auto focus, which I assume was used here.

David you are correct, I was tracking the plane on the left and sooting(about 10 shots) as it came from my left. I was leading it knowing that the other plain would be comming from the right. I GOT LUCKY!! but then some times we make our own luck.

Robert: I just posted my best take on this shot. Thought you might want to take a look. This is my first post here, and it looks like I should have uploaded a bigger version.

Lucky is right! I know how very tough it is to get this shot. I photographed the Blue Angels at a local air show a few years ago and the closing speed of these aircraft is incredibly fast for this stunt. Pan with one, blast away with the motordrive, and hope you time it right so that they cross during one of your exposures. By the time you see them cross in the viewfinder, it's already too late.

Not the greatest shot technically, and the blown out sky is not very aesthetically pleasing, but it's better than any I managed to get. Congratulations.
