atkphotoworks 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Amongst your new images, this is one that struck me immediately. Nice off centering. I was going to suggest cropping the ledge below, but I think it adds for a nice boundary as does the left side. My one quibble is that I wish the image was a bit sharper. Her expression has a quiet intensity. She seems..."imprisoned" and longing to get out. Dunno, just my sense of it which could be wrong. One last thing, I think it could also make for a good black and white piece. Link to comment

weezul 0 Posted April 23, 2006 Please note that this very picture in b&w gets much higher rating while this version is so lovely, vivid and - in my opinion - more interesting. Advice for people who seek high ratings => convert Your portraits to black and white for more 'artistic' touch ;-D Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted April 23, 2006 I hardly think that it's remarkable in the least. First, it's very likely that a different set of people have rated this image from the one that appears later on. Those same people who rated this one may have rated the black and white in much the same way had they been posted at the same time, and perhaps this one would have been rated higher had it been posted at the same time as the black and white. Second, converting something into a black and white doesn't automatically make it "artistic", but it may be more "appropriate" to the image. I am often amazed by the difference between a colour and black & white version of the same image at times and how it affects the mood. Also there is a difference between the versions here, in that the black and white is also sharper which may also account for the difference. Link to comment
suchitra 0 Posted April 23, 2006 Actually Amar you are right. Both the images are not the same.. this image was shot first and the black white was shot just seconds later. it was one the series of the images shot within the span of a few seconds. thats why you find the black and white sharper. coming to the question of rating, i have come to realise that people's ratings are very subjective most of them based on momentary impulse. I am not discounting people who do rate with consideration. In the begining the ratings used to bother me. Now I look for comments, even harsh ones. Link to comment
weezul 0 Posted April 23, 2006 Amar, absolutely right! That was a kind of tongue-in-cheek comment on my side... This particular photo works great both ways, but my personal preference (emphasis on 'personal'!) is this version. I must admit that I do convert to b&w quite often but what I am trying to point out is actually what you have said: it does not make a photo more 'artistic' by definition. I really admire people who have mastered the art of colour in photography (my everlasting problem) but I also do admire those who tell a story through an image changed as little as possible, be it b&w, be it colour. By the way, it is great to know that you read and address what I have sent here. Best regards! Link to comment
weezul 0 Posted April 23, 2006 oh, one more line: this frame would work great as a page of a magazine, the other one is finer for a pic as such! Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Suchi - thanks for the info, I didn't realize that it was different. I thought you may have just sharpened the image. Maciej, nice dialoguing with you. Link to comment
