ned1 0 Posted April 19, 2006 If I had shot this on film the dress would not have blown out. Ah well... Link to comment
banksshots 0 Posted April 19, 2006 Play around with a smaller aperture and a more sensitive ISO next time. Capturing this type of shot is why I went 100% digital. Link to comment

ned1 0 Posted April 19, 2006 I metered it and there was a four stop difference between her face and her dress. I was shooting jpg so maybe if I shot raw I would have gotten that extra stop. Link to comment
john falkenstine 1 Posted April 20, 2006 Must be a camera setting Ed. Actually, the whole image is overexposed. Sure am glad that it was overcast last time I did a wedding. Don't know how your camera works, but my Olympus 8080 has got excellent metering and an a quickie button on the front that locks the camera's exposure setting. Since the girl's face is in the shadow, I would have risked at least one exposure by setting the camera for the very bright dress, locking the exposure and then using a fill flash. Link to comment
ned1 0 Posted April 20, 2006 The overexposed appearence comes from photoshop manipulations I did to flatten the tonalities out. The tonal range of the original was simply too extreme. Link to comment
john falkenstine 1 Posted April 20, 2006 Well, its still extreme. And the girls face almost in the flower pot is also an issue. I would say this shot as its shown here needs to go in da dumper. :) Link to comment
daviddbfotoart 0 Posted April 21, 2006 I think its just over exposed, and poorly thought out photo. Stick a white dress in the sun and expose for a head in the shade, even film will shit itself! This is why god created big diffusers! Get one, grab a groomsmen, send him outside, and start again. Link to comment
