michaelhills 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Jason, you are correct - you have to view this much larger to appreciate the image. Which means, that you might get a lukewaerm reception to this as I think many would not bother to see the large version. A very imaginative approach to portraiture. I like the processing and presentation. I can see this printed up large and displayed on a huge blank wall... What made you think of doing this? I'm very curious to see how peoples' minds work on things like this... M :) Link to comment

jasonwilliamsphotography 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Thanks Michael and Michelle:) Michael, I had seen an image that someone used as a banner ad that just flowed into a gradient. I liked the idea and also know that the eyes are normally the key feature in many good portraits, so I wanted the eyes to be the focal point. I also liked the effect of a negative image and thought this image was a perfect candidate for doing this effect with the reverse gradient drawing interest to the shot with a strong contrast. I was thinking of putting text to the right of this image with the text reversing tones as it passes through the strip. I have not been able to decide on a font the I like to do this with yet that fits with this image. I also did a version of this without the two inverse color mapping which I may use on a business card after shrinking the proportions to match the aspect ratio of a card. I had also thought of doing a version with a strip run through the mouth area but thought is was to distracting, or just putting a box around the mouth area that had the original image. I will probably play with a few more variations of this in the future. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment:) Link to comment
michaelhills 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Jason, no need for thanks - it is a pleasure discussing this with you. Hmmm... a strip through the mouth.... I'm not sure that will work too... did you actually try it out? It might turn out surprising effective ;) It is an interesting concept for a business card graphic. If done well, I think it would look very effective. Actually, after viewing this for awhile, i feel that perhaps it could be improved if the head was slightly larger... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want to see more of the eye - it is a little lost in the frame at present. But, if you like it the way it is, then great - it is your image ;) M Link to comment
jasonwilliamsphotography 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Michael, I agree it probably needs to be a portrait type aspect ratio for it to work better as card much of the detail of the shot will be lost, I greatly reduced it down to post here and lost alot of the detail. I think the mouth block might work if the other strip does not extend the entire length of the shot and if the image is done vertically not horizontally. Thanks for spending the time to give feedback, it is much appreciated. Oh how I wish I could go back to Australia, I went a few years ago, around this time of year, so many wonderful sites. I was more in the south, where it was a bit cooler than Brisbane. I could definitely live there. Someday I will go back. Link to comment
