dk. 0 Posted April 12, 2006 Birte Really nice picture, Is it real or put together the DOF is really big, it looks as if it was put together from two pictures to me because of the dof. I like it ether way. DK. Link to comment
a.sparks 0 Posted April 12, 2006 Birte, very nice shot. I really like the contrast with the bird and the waves. Link to comment
misterwelter 0 Posted April 13, 2006 I think this must be a composite because of the huge depth of field. I suppose it would be possible to achieve at f16 or something, but then you'd be hard pressed to freeze the action. Anyway, impressive picture. Link to comment
imatate 0 Posted April 13, 2006 Maybe if the highlights on the bird and the values of the white water matched it would blend better. I assume the sun is the same on both. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Wow. wow bravo!!! What a great First plan with the sea waves behind! Very powerful photograph! Biliana Link to comment

derek_sparta 0 Posted April 13, 2006 You guys are killing me here. This isn't even a good Photoshop job. It isn't real. Link to comment
joe_margetts5 0 Posted April 14, 2006 Great image, a little outside my league so I feel a bit of a fraud commenting but the bird does look a little stuffed. Have you pasted it on the background or were you actually there? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 14, 2006 No disrespect Birte but I agree with Derek's comment. Your skills cutting around the bird are excellent but the title Kelp Gull AND storm would be more appropiate. It never ceases to amaze me how fooled some people are. Or perhaps there is a genuine taste for this type of montage-no matter how false it obviously is. (of course, feel free to correct me if I am wrong)Anyhow, happy easter. May the birds lay you excellent eggs. Link to comment
joe_margetts5 0 Posted April 14, 2006 Guy's, at risk of appearing complacent as a new contributor, maybe there is value in actually turning up at the same time as your subject? Anyone can superimpose internet image over internet image? Sorry, have used film for years and find being there is quite important!! Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted April 14, 2006 No I was there, and I took the bird and the waves, and why isn,t it real?.I don,t see any difference between setting up a model with all the contraptions to setting a bird against a nice background.I think you are being a little too purist.I don,t claim to be a good photographer, though I do get a lot of enjoyment out of it and being out amongst nature. I am an environmentalist, all my photography is solely done for that purpose, and the money that comes out of it goes straight into conservation.PS If you are such purists take a look at the rest of the site and see how many images have had some work done to them, very few have not been touched. Guest Guest Posted April 14, 2006 Birte,i'm totally confused. Are you saying the bird was dead and arranged on a contraption above the water - that this is not a montage? I've got absolutely nothing against working on images. For me manipulation is neccesary and i doubt a completely unmanipulated image exists. However, your bird looks like he was never, dead or alive, above those waves. Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted April 14, 2006 He was very much alive,it is simply two images one of the waves and one of the bird put together to make what I thought was a pleasing image. It was one I did for our seashore conservation magazine. The original gull had some ugly rocks in the background.By the way they are both taken at the same place. The wave one was taken during the storm we had, usually you can see the rocks there but not this day.Hope that clears it up for you.
