The boy's size was a little unsettling because of his positioning in relation to his mum. He has a child's body but quite a mature-looking face. And his intense gaze lends to his apparent age.

Having said that, the tones in your converted image are superb! I'm not too sure about the zoom blur effect, though, especially to the left of the frame (mum's side) where I feel it is a bit too much since her saree is white. I find it drawing attantion away from her and the boy. Perhaps a verticsl crop might make a poignant image like this even more powerful? Just a thought...
