Fence on the Beach

mstrada

I've tried to respond to a couple of the criticisms below. (The only thing worse than my scanning ability is my Photoshop ability.) I've tried to correct the color cast, and I've cropped it just a bit (though I still like the big sky, even if it is a bit featureless).

The cyan cast to the image is terrible. The composition doesn't seem to be that great either. Is the image supposed to be of the fence or the sky? The sky is not very interesting...

Thanks for the helpful (if somewhat disheartening) criticisms. I've tried to correct the color cast, and I've chopped off a bit of the sky to make it more balanced compositionally. I do like having a lot of sky above the fence, though, even though I see the fence as the subject.

Matt,

Since I left a smart-ass comment on your NYC shot buildings w/dramatic sky shot I felt compelled to comment on one of your images that I thought was strong..

Ok, yeah the cyan cast ain't so hot.. but the image is a nice one. It reminds me of old book illustrations from the 1940s. Despite what others think - the sky ain't that bad and sometimes it's all that's there... ; -)

You could easily resolve some of these issues in Pshop - without too much effort.

For instance the sky looks like if you had filtered correctly when shot that it could have a good amount of contrast and detail... so if you felt inclined to do so you could easily pick that back out in Pshop.

Nice work!

cheers,

Luc

I would have liked just 10% more sky. If you have crop it, put it back please (along with the short focal length and the contrast, the sky increases the dramatism). Although the composition and colors are great. 2x10.

I don't think the sky is too much. IMHO, I do not believe that a photo has to follow the traditional rules of composition in order for it to be considered beautiful. I don't think the sky takes all that much away from the fence. If I took this photo, yeah I might have fixed the color cast, but the cast actually adds a moodiness to the image that might have been lost if you made the photo to look "perfect." Just my 2 cents worth.

I like this photo, the color of the sky and the fence that guide your eyes into landscape. The hack post in relation the house bugs be a bit, unsure if changing it would make it better or worse though :-)
