I'm afraid that I shot this while still using an EOS 1D, so the reds are a bit pink and the

overall quality of the image is generally not up to modern digital standards. Sorry.

Your views on the image none the less please...

I like the glint off the yellow reflector at the back, clearly visible on the larger image. Good pan Mark.

Little feeling for the speed? Can you not see the blurred background and the spinning spokes on the wheels? Are you looking at the same picture?

This picture is purely an exercise in panning technique, to show the speed.

???? Why are you complaining about 1D and its color matrixes? Load a new tone profile into it with TWAIN, or use DPP, if you don't like the outcome. Sorry, I don't buy the excuse. The original 1D is still one heck of a camera.

Oversaturated, otherwise nice, well panned shot. The full size is sharpened a bit too much.

Juha. It's ok. I don't use the 1D any more. I now use a 1DS and I'm about to start using a 1DS MarkII. I played around with the 1D to try to get the best out of it, but when the 1DS came out, I just upgraded. Fortunately, I don't buy my own cameras!!!!

From your portfolio I deduct you seem to do a lot of motorsport. You do realize, that the (slow) 1Ds is not the best choice for that? The faster 1D MkII is with its 8,5 fps and fast focusing algorithms. I own a 1D MkII and it is the by far the best camera I've ever had. For studio, commercial and such work the 1Ds/1Ds MkII is optimum but is way beyond my budget. Good luck with the 1Ds, it's one heck of a tool.

I know the first generation 1D had a CCD which produced overly saturated tones with the standard matrix, but you could fix that by setting the tone profile. I know a pj who complained about the same thing, but the real reason was that he was so used to film work flow, that he did not realize, that there are tricks of own in the digital world. He was too used to, too lazy, too old, what ever to really learn the new work flows and he was blaming the camera.

Juha, I believe the 1DS (and mark II) is the best choice for my photography, as they give the best resolution from a 35mm style camera, and consequently the bigger file sizes and better quality.

I find that the slow drive just makes you think about your photography more, instead of just firing like a machine gun and hoping for the best! You actually have to think about when to press the shutter, just like in the good old days. I like it.
