Queen honeybees do not look as different from workers as many people

think, and it can be quite difficult even for experienced beekeepers

to find the one queen among tens of thousands of bees in a hive. I

suppose I should try to take a "Where's Waldo" type photo sometime to

illustrate this, but with this photo I'm hoping for just the opposite:

a photo just about anyone can point to and say, "That's the queen,"

even if they don't know exactly how a queen differs from the workers.

Does this photo work?

I think I can spot the Queen. She's the one with the fat butt (elongated abdomen). The tricky part would be finding the Duke and Duchess.

The image details are good. I assume that this was taken through glass. We had a glass behive is school.

Well spotted, Keith. The queen is indeed the one with the fat butt. But I didn't take this in a glass hive. The only glass between those bees and me was my EF-S 60mm macro lens (plenty of working distance, just by the way, for those who insist that 100mm is best).

I see the Queen too as she does look like a Queen after all. :o)

Now if only I could get some honey. Nice bee picture.
