chris_steelman 0 Posted January 31, 2002 Just wondering what people think of this image. Link to comment
bob stewart jacksonville 0 Posted January 31, 2002 Nice photo of a beautiful scene. But light is everything in photography. The difference between this photo and the ones in the brochures is the time of day (and hence the quality of light). I was in Yellowstone this summer and took basically this same shot with midday light, and got very similar results. Its difficult to make stand out images of heavily visited and photographed areas like this without being there in the right light, and trying something to come up with a unique perspective. By the way I like your photo of skillet glacier in the Tetons reflecting in the water much better. Link to comment
fotografpeterlundberg.se 0 Posted January 31, 2002 I like it, even though its midday light. What a scenery. Did you use a polarizing filter? Link to comment
ian leslie 0 Posted January 31, 2002 I still like it. Perhaps later light would have been better but it still captures what it look like during the day. The only think I do not quite like is that the river is not allowed to flow out of the picture. Instead it is "blocked". I suggesting cropping or reframing so that the river exits the image at the bottom. Link to comment
chris_steelman 0 Posted February 1, 2002 I appreciate it. I agree the lighting wasn't very good mid day. But the color of the canyon did show better than I thought it would for that time of day. I did use a polorizer so that helped a little. Again, thanks for your comments. Link to comment
fraser_elliot 0 Posted February 2, 2002 I worked in Canyon Village for a season and I've got rolls and rolls of similar shots to this. I think the canyon comes out best on an overcast day, or even just after rain - it seem to bring ot the colours more. Of course the easiest way to get something different is to hike down in to the canyon or along the rim. Places like Artists Point almost seem to be devoid of merit because the image is scorched into peoples mind through countless brochures & holiday snaps. Unless they invent a pocket Imax camera i think its pretty hard to do it justice. FE Edinburgh UK Link to comment
