Miles,I like the way you compose your images. This one is interesting in its partition of fg.and bg. where the white wall and two cats are middle " border" between the two. faces of the participants are not clear but the situation is.

Interesting rendition and color range.

I agree with Pnina's analysis above -- and add a little.

Two two monks, hand in hand have a wonderful 'attitude' in midstep -- it takes real skill to 'capture' such a moment.

The cats: The two cats in the leftmost frame are all white and all black -- the cat in the right frame is half and half.

The guard could stand some sharpening, even if he never can be 'rescued' into full sharpness, at least you should try (if you have not) with Smart Sharpen in Photoshop CS2 to see what kind of quality you can get for him after 'selecting' him (with any kind of appropriate feather or none at all) and just see what happens. You may or may not like the results (if your ethics allow for Photoshopping at all -- I think you have to objection to improving your images. Choose 'lens blur' in the options for him and experiment with the sliders, I think -- at least that's what I would do with such a wonderful capture. I don't think I would try to enhance his 'brightness' as that would unbalance the focus on the monks, leftmost (indeed his lack of sharpness may also serve that purpose -- artist's choice).

Your work continues to delight me with its complexity -- only a sampling I know of one of the most complex minds I have stumbled on in a very long time.

Best wishes,

John (Crosley)

Thanks John and Pnina.

Low lighting and slow film made it impossible to have everything in focus. Maybe a point and shoot "all in focus all the time" digicam would have beaten Leica plus full frame film here.

Miles.

great photo, the divided frame, the cats, the postures of the monks and the laugh of the doorman.... I like this very much.
