mute_swan_photography 0 Posted March 23, 2006 What a great shot. Good light on the doll. I really like the dark mood combined with the bright light. Alex Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 23, 2006 Well seen and composed. This is disturbing, in a fascinating way. (And that's good.) Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted March 23, 2006 Gorgeous! What a fantastic picture this is ... perfectly exposed, lit and composed. Link to comment
kgibbons 0 Posted March 23, 2006 Am I the only person who finds this photo un-nerving? I'm generally pretty open minded about people capturing or expressing what they want, but this one hit me pretty hard. my .02 Link to comment
f. monteiro 0 Posted March 23, 2006 Thank you all for your comments. It's just a doll, Kevin. But I know what you mean. When I found the scene (it wasn't "staged" or "photoshoped") and photographed it and still now when I look at it for more than one second, I get this strange feeling. I can't tell why. You are not suposed to throw away your dolls, I guess. And there's that abandoned and helpless feeling of an object/symbol that can take us back to childwood. This dirty and "drowned" abandoned doll must mean something. I keep telling myself that it's just a piece of plastic with fake hair, dammit! It's not helping though... Link to comment
j_m_lee_photography 0 Posted March 24, 2006 Luckily it's only a doll. Very well rendered. Link to comment

k c 0 Posted March 25, 2006 It was really shocking and gruesome to me. But well seen and captured! It makes me scared and sad at the same time. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted March 26, 2006 I think it's shocking because dolls represent "babies". Little girls cuddle them and treat them like a real child. This is quite a strong image actually. The vacant eyes imply death and the pose of the doll does look quite childlike. If this was a less realistic doll (like a Barbie doll), I don't think it would have the same impact. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted April 24, 2006 It's not only the abandoned doll but the muddy water with its flotsam and jetsam which you have captured so well, that gives this picture its strong visceral impact. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 24, 2006 Strong impact, sad, somebody lost part of his( probabaly hers)childhood... Link to comment
kgibbons 0 Posted May 4, 2006 first, thanks for responding to my comment. seriously. Good discourse. The reason it hit me so hard was that I didn't realize it was a doll for several seconds. My first reaction was that it looked like a child. I'm a new dad, so that probably influenced my feelings, too. That strange feeling that you described is exactly WHY people take - and keep - photos. Keep doing it. Keep taking picures and posting and sharing yourself here. Just understand that that kind of honesty is not always received openly. But we all need it to grow and learn. Group hug? anyone? Link to comment
