davidbridge 0 Posted April 29, 2006 This photo has been on my page for ages now but I have never submitted it before due to its rather personal nature. The photo is of my brother who died last year on the bike in the photo. This pic was taken at the TT in June 2004. We loved to go there and tried to do it every year. The TT epitimises biking in every way as 40,000 bikers culminate on a tiny island with a 37 miles race course on closed public roads. To bikers everywhere the TT is many things that they just dont get back home. Freedom, friendship and fellowship, respect, lunacy, community, excitement and to help it all along, a trully awesome atmosphere. But when it all gets a bit too much, a bit lairy, you just get on your bike and visit one of the islands many remote, quiet, beauty spots and relax in the June sun. This is exactly what my brother is doing here and I think the picture captures this perfectly. Sure I composed the shot and got Simon to pose for it but truth is, its easy to pose for a shot if you feel like the person in the pose - if you know what I mean. i.e. the photo captures the mood rather than fabricates it. Incidentally, Simon died in Kendal, the Lake district, North England on 7th August 2005 due to a faulty road surface that wrenched the front wheel from under him at just 39 mph on a national speed limit road. I was just behind him at the time and held him while he died. He was an experienced rider of 23 years with a wife, a daughter and another daughter on the way. He was also a devout Christian and a charity worker. His accident would not have been serious had there not been a car coming the other way in to which he slid. Sorry for going on but sometimes the message behind the photo makes the photo more interesting - IMHO. Link to comment
megansteen 0 Posted April 30, 2006 I am very sorry to hear about your brother. IMO this photo, even though it is posed, show who he really is, from what you have said about him. He looks relaxed, and his facial expression is very natural. Good Dof and overall Composition. Megan Link to comment

kobrown 0 Posted April 30, 2006 How wonderful that you have this happy photo of your brother shining in the sun and doing something he loved to do. I am sorry that you lost him at such a young age but glad you have such fine memories. Like Simon, each of us will live on as long as we are remembered by those whose lives we touch.
