andrea_garza 0 Posted January 13, 2002 The colors are bright and vivid, the blue plate was an excellent choice as well as adding in the cracked shell, very eye catching. Link to comment
allan engelhardt 0 Posted January 13, 2002 The colors are great: bright white, blue, yellow. Love it!! IMHO the compostion needs a little work. It is almost there, but in still life "almost" isn't enough. We expect painstaking attention to detail. So you probably want two unbroken egg yolks, you'd want to hide the white what's-it-called on the bottom, unbroken, egg yolk, You'd want to get rid of the bit of yellow in the egg shell, you may want to clear up the small bits of shell (?), and you'd probably want to get rid of the "fold" on the plate in the top right corner: This is an exercise in color and bold shapes, not subtleties. Sooooo close to a really great picture!! The idea is fantastic! In fact, I think I'll be looking for blue plates soon..... Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
dan_sheppard 0 Posted January 13, 2002 Clever shot! I like it. Fabulous blue, good composition. You did not put the yolks or shell eggsactly dead center, which is good. You put them right along the "rule of thirds" lines to the top and right side. You don't have to shell out a lot of money for a good subject. No yolks here. Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted January 13, 2002 Not a lot I'd change. Maybe the non web-version is a little sharper, would be my only pick. Color, composition and exposure look good. Like the white whatchamacallit. Link to comment
steve_strawn 0 Posted January 16, 2002 I think Alan doesn't quite get it here. I think the feel of this shot would change entirely if there were two perfect eggs with a perfect plate and perfect yolks. This implies a sense of chaos, which I think is good for this kind of thing Link to comment
mark_kay 0 Posted January 16, 2002 Thank you for the comments. My goal was to create a vision of chaos and not perfect order. I had considered some of the changes suggested by Alan at the time of shooting and editing but decided to leave it for the effect I was trying to express. I realize this is a matter of artistic taste and what makes the world go around but i do appreciate the feedback. mark Link to comment
maia_symone 0 Posted January 19, 2002 Brilliant Color! To me, the yolk on the shell compliments the "out of place" white on the plate. Nice work! Link to comment
steven b epstein 0 Posted February 17, 2002 I like the photo and the great D30 color, but... I just about fell out of my chair at the irony as I looked through you beautiful catalog of bird shots to find broken eggs on a plate! Maybe these belong in a different folder.;-). Great folder. jed 0 Posted July 15, 2002 I agree with much of that allen has to say definitely get rid of the fluff (embryo) at the bottom of the yolk. That kink in the plate is a distraction, not an enhancement it is too even too perfect to add to any sense of chaos. The broken pieces are good and are definitely a good addition to the chaos. A little more to the broken pieces may add more interest. The colours? I certainly would agree it inspires one to look for a blue plate it's a complement to want to imitate you. Link to comment
