home page1 0 Posted March 15, 2006 A wonderful portrait of an attractive young woman. Very nice background, Pnina, and lovely skin tones and engaging smile. Well done! Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted March 15, 2006 The tight composition works very well, and there is a very interesting "rotor" effect of bright sky and bright teeth and eyes, alngo the centre of the picture and sharp diagonals along the sides. They conjure in a swirl of the background around the image in the same way the turban swings around her head. Most definitvely well done to attract the viewer deeper into the shot. The chin has been mentioned enough, so I will skip on that... ...on the other hand the earrings are very appealing to me. They might tell a story or two of the relation between women and their jewelry in societies which are different from those we are used to. It might not be the case -I cannot know- for this particular individual in this particular picture, but it brought back to me things I've seen and read about one woman's jewel being effectively her only possession in many cultures/places and therefore to always have on, should the worst (or any of the worses) happen. pnital 36 Posted March 15, 2006 To all of you.I appreciate your points of view. Salvatore, I especially thank you for your extensive "operation" ( of course I mean interpretation...). You have a way to go into all parts of compositional construction. I'm not always aware of all the small details while my eye sizes the situation and composes it, so it was nice to know how it is seen by you as a viewer (and by all the others )and what you write, I learn as well at the same time .... Jewelery. Yes that is right, I don't know about that woman, but the situation in there is that a woman after her marriage is her husband's "property". As in Muslem tradition a man can marry 4 women ( what a paradise...) and if he divorces her, she has to leave the house with only whate is on her body. we learned it as we saw women with a lot of gold jewlery on them.We were told that they even sleep with them. alberto.conde 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Good and appealing portrait. Since the need for more room below has been already discussed I'm going to concentrate on the compostion and praise the choice of a shallow DOF. Compositionally the portrait is very good. The diagonal of her turban's knot is fantastic and makes a very good natural frame to her proud smile. This square format that you have chosen for the crop is interesting. You have decided on a crop where the OOF buildings behind her made an opposing diagonal to that of the turban. That gives the shot a lot of dynamism.Let me, as well, praise the image's colours. A symphony of browns, enhanced by the colourful earrings. Wonderful.I wonder how the original shot looks like (but I understand that the photographer's kitchen secrets are to be respected).
