It's a very good artistic rendering, but doesn't quite meet standards of a "photograph". Background bothers me too...looks very manipulated and not at all natural. That said, colors are nice, and the shots of the birds are spectacular. Was the background so unpleasant that you couldn't post it that way with some other, more natural looking manipulation?

This is NOT a photograph. It is a graphical composite that uses photographic elements. I like Photoshop and use it a lot but am amazed that some people keep believing that this "photographer" captured this in nature with such superb timing. I try not to be such a negative nelly but this type of work belongs on a graphic art site, not photo.net. And if it is here it should be clearly marked as HEAVILY MANIPULATED!

In the other "photograph" the Egret is carrying a frog, Having followed the thread I agree whole heartedly that although the composite effect is etherial and certainly very pleasing to the eye, in the end it does not compare at all with a genuine original and should indeed be in another catagory of heavily manipulated beyond recognition with the original photos.. thus said it remains a pleasing composit... thats all

This image definitely seems to tell a story. The color treatment is also quite nice.

The shadows on each birds don't match, they don't have the same angle.

This image is made of differents photos.

And the background looks very artificial.

I don't know why this is getting such high ratings. It is a run of the mill, non-believable PS creation. Everything about it is unnatural and the composition doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I didn't see immediately that it is a composition. It looks to me like it might have been a "real" photo. The light is similar (though it appears slightly different on each bird), and the sky is unlikely to look like that at any time but just before sunrise or just after sunset, so that is what gave it away to me. I just thought "Is this image possible?" Great work though. Very beautiful.

Someone said it doesn't fit the standards of a photo, what is it then, painting?! Someone rated it with threes because of the same "reason"! I think it's rubbish! This is the best picture of birds I've see lately, about a year or so!

Saleem, this is fine art, it looks almost magic to me. Congratulations, very difficult shot, you did a great job here.

Saleem may be an excellent photographer and the image wonderful ect. but its not an 'incredible capture'. Its assembled. Why fake bird photos are frequently described as great captures, I don't know but maybe people are not able to spot fakes very well.
