Well, it's not reciprocity failure. It couldn't be as it is a digital capture. The 'tones' look accurate to me, purposely dark due to the ND filter. The streaked clouds are the result of motion during a 3-minute exposure.

Thanks for the info. The streaked clouds complement the blurred water well. I presume the dark rocks in the midzone are the subjects of 'Transformation'.

No, "Transformation" was taken 200 miles away on Oregon's North Coast at a different time. The rocks do look similar though.

I've always wondered how folks judge an accurate exposure in bulb mode, presumably you use some form of light meter? (Or was it trial and error with the histogram?)

Marc,

Your artistry - and Adam's (Burton) - set the standards to which I aspire but which I'm realistic enough to realize I will in all probability never reach. You have an unerring ability to make images that stir the spirit and sooth the soul. You have a remarkable talent.

Who's the idiot that rated this a 3/3? I'm not against anonymous ratings but this is clearly ratings abuse caused by jealously.

They went through every image in my portfolio and rated it a 3/3 also. This includes images not even entered for critique! I have addressed my complaints with the administration. I will be expecting a reply from them soon.

Marc, I noticed that some anonymous coward rated one of my photos a 3/3 as well. The strange thing is, it was rated anonymously after almost 2 days of being posted for critique. I also noticed that this photo was posted for quite some time before it got hit with an anonymous 3/3. How is this possible? I thought after a period of time, photos were immune from anonymous ratings. Did administration give you any clues to what's going on?

No, unfortunately they were not forthcoming with that information. I suggested some soft of manipulation/hacking of the system. They rated some of my images never even posted to the critique forum!

Marc, do you ever get any problems with noise and banding on longish exposures like this even on ISO 100 with the 5D?
