tmeyer 0 Posted January 5, 2002 At first the DOF bothered me, I thought it was a bit shallow. But, after looking at it longer, I think it works just fine. Link to comment
sabio 0 Posted January 5, 2002 Her expression is so....? DOF is distracting but perhaps Tim is right...the longer you linger the less it bothers you....I keep wondering what is she thinking about? Link to comment
zodina 0 Posted January 6, 2002 Thanks for the comments.. As far as the DOF being distracting do you think maybe its becuase i did a bad touch up job of a small shadow that was falling on her cheek just below her right eye? I slightly blurred it to disguise my touch up and so maybe this caused a more unnatural DOF ? Or should i still try to increase the DOF for this photo and other similar types of shot in the future? Your thoughts on this are appreciated, thankyou Link to comment
blago 0 Posted January 6, 2002 Such a DOF is acceptable in portraits especially if you want to express a particular mood as you did. Many glamour photographers are using this technique. But after blurring the area below her right eye you could reconstruct the film grain there. Anyhow it is a masterly done portrait. Blago Link to comment
mike l 0 Posted January 6, 2002 Nice shot, I like the lighting. For me the DOF works it helps to capture the mood Link to comment
esben_jensen 0 Posted January 6, 2002 It's a nice portrait, but I would have liked it even better if the right side of her face hadn't received so much light Link to comment
alec 0 Posted January 6, 2002 Great composition, but I think a red filter would have removed or lessened the freckles... For some reason I think they take away a bit from the photo.... I like what you did with the depth of field, though. Link to comment

warren_jackson 0 Posted January 7, 2002 Absolutely beautiful ! The arm in front of her face bugs me, but o/w great light, great photo, pretty kid. Link to comment
steve_teale 0 Posted January 7, 2002 nice lighting. There is an unusual optical illusion here - the right eyebrow pulls the whole right side of the face into a different plane to the left. Link to comment
cedarbough 0 Posted January 7, 2002 Face on far side is so light it draws my eye before the in focus near side of her, which is the only negative thing I can say about this shot... the rest is great. Link to comment
jon whitear 0 Posted January 8, 2002 Nice catchlight and focussing draw my attention to the near eye. I would have preferred to see some differentiation between the nose and cheek - the highlights have somewhat blown out and merged into one. Link to comment
matthew_hinman 0 Posted January 13, 2002 I found it to be quite captivating. Having the darker tones in focus and the lighter slightly blurred tends to balance the image, at least for me. The part of the image in focus represents part of her here, then the blurred portion represents the part of her that might be far away, perhaps daydreaming... Link to comment
rogan 0 Posted January 15, 2002 Cannot help but think, what would happen here if the picture was taken from a much lower angle? The DOF in this shot may have worked better that way - top left in focus and bottom right soft. As it is, the DOF certainly distracts. The attention is intially drawn to the highlights before drifting back to the area of principle focus. If the intention was to get the eye to move and keep on exploring then it certainly works in this shot thus making it a good photograph and an exceptional piece of work. Link to comment
julia_liu 0 Posted January 17, 2002 I like this portrait with an by unusual use of DOF. The lighting and the pose are wonderful. Link to comment
