I guess the harmony is not yet but it will be once the necklace is repaired. The hand will bring harmony. An interesting image and a good fit for the theme. It is certainly provocative. I think it deserves a better execution: better contrast and definition is needed, the hand lacks volume and details. I guess it was taken with a flash, which is not a good thing for a close up.

I like the idea, but this seems more like a first-draft.

The shadows under the hand draw unneeded attention to it. Also, I would have centered the DOF around the bead that the fingers are picking up.

As is, having both the central bead and the necklace occupy each extreme of focus seems to clutter the image. I would either close the DOF a bit or bring it closer to the lens.

A more tightly controled DOF would help to solidify the message and intent of the image.

Even though, I like this image and the intent, good work.

PT, I'm not sure which is more complex : the composition or the idea. Aesthetically this is not easily absorbed by the eye - so conceptually one is either prejudiced from the beginning, or takes up the challenge of 'reading' your message.

There exist 2 middles that I see - the jewel, and the ring; the gold seems more harmonious than the other...but then I wonder which is the intended so I think I'll settle for the fact that each of these stones is whole, a complete unit. Though when one thinks 'necklace' one thinks of a society of jewels (or whatever) hanging on a string - and this one has come apart, but the individuals know nothing of this, just the one who wears it - and those who view photos of the undoing....oh, hell the guy in the middle looks okay, whole/ healed / at one with All, in harmony with his existence - the (focused) eye of the storm.

So, how did I do?

Wow, Seven, my mind boggles! Sometimes I really envy your ability to guess what's behind an idea in a shot.

PT: I like the idea here (though I would not have thought of the explanations Seven came up with) but I agree that this could be improved from an execution point of view. No need to go for esthetics here, but a bit more attention to details like the dark triangle bottom/left might clean up the composition a bit.

Regards,

Tom

One more thing that I noticed (I'm using a different computer, and I didn't notice it on mine) is that the dodging of the necklace could use some work.

It looks like the tool size that you used was twice as wide as the necklace.

OK, I'll go with my interpretation here. To me, the ring is the harmony, it is the symbol of the deep love of the married couple. The broken necklace is the representation of the difficulty a loving couple can go through in life. Here I feel it is a fight they had, and something was broken (not necessarily the necklace) and now the pieces are put together again, the charm of the ring working is way, the harmony in the middle of difficulty.

Aesthetically, I think I would like more contrast and I agree about the fact that the tool was not selected properly for the necklace in the background.
