The more I look at this photo, the more I appreciate the complexity of the subject's expression. The look on his face is gruff and defiant, but also soft and protective. The plant seems to be clutched with both pride and defiance. It seems to me, to be a clear tropy to the subject, but one that he is aware that others may not value.

This works well in B&W. His expression is great. I love how he is holding the flower pot so close. Nice work. I looked at his portrait w/o the flower pot, and like this one better. This portrait says more....even his expression looks stronger here.

This portrait tells a story and does it simply and effectively. I can almost hear this man's voice and way of speaking. You've captured a certain determination in his look. Really nice portrait!
