e. lauritzen 0 Posted February 14, 2006 A quiet, serene, and soft image which invites an escape from the hectic aspects of an all to extreme contemporary attitude. The partial handcoloring of the rope is not appropriate to what is a very intuitive photograph. Its is what is called "a disturbing spot" and even if the rope was colored all the way to the boat this addition seems out of place: it is not part of a "visually well thoughout" moment. Sometimes it is better to know when to stop rather than go to far and actually start working against an already complete work. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted February 14, 2006 Warren- This is really nice. I love the detail in the distant grass & the awesome reflections of the boat. I am not so sure about the selective color in the rope though. I wish the post was more to the right corner in the composition. 6/6 Through the miracle of PS, I can show you what I mean. Hope you don't mind. Link to comment
toddk1 0 Posted February 14, 2006 I think this is a great shot. The new crop posted does not work for me being that the log thing is basically leading you out of the image. I like the original crop. As for the selective color, it really kills the shot. It takes all the attention in the shot and the boat ends up becoming a secondary thing. Link to comment
warren williams 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Thank you all for your amazing comments. I really have learnt a thing or two after your comments. Jayme, I tend to agree with your comment on the cropping. And yes, perhaps the colouring is wrong!Thank you all for being so constructive. Warren Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted February 16, 2006 Great details and beautiful rendition Warren.Has an appealling atmospher I like the colored rope that is ballancing by its "weight" the form of the boat..Pnina Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted February 17, 2006 Excellent concept, and a fine image. Eye-catching. But I think the composition doesn't quite succeed. Jayme's crop is an improvement. In the original, there's too much blank space at lower right, and the boat is too close to the left border. (I love the grass and sky, by the way, and letting the water go white in this way is an attractive creative choice.) In the original, my view is that we need to see either more of the piling or less of it. Jayme shows us a great version with less of it; the other alternative would have been to step back a bit when taking the photo and capture the whole piling down to the waterline. This could be done in either portrait or landscape orientation, I think. As to the selective coloration, I think it is not an integral part of the message expressed by this image, and so it's a distraction, not an enhancement. Link to comment
warren williams 0 Posted February 17, 2006 Hi Chris and thanks for your comments. A few things I should mention. To the left of the boat it?s a bit of a mess, hence the tight crop. I agree with Jayme?s crop too ? I think it makes the shot a lot more powerful and is less confusing on the eye. Letting the water go white wasn?t my choice, it was Nature?s choice luckily enough! I don?t know that I would want to take the piling all the way down to the waterline ? I quite like it the way it is, perhaps 1 step back but no more. Thanks again for your comments Chris.
