alecee 0 Posted February 12, 2006 Look at the thin metal rail coming down, there are no rails going up and some people fall and die here. That's how dangerous it is. The limestone steps are well worn off. Link to comment

alinux33 0 Posted February 13, 2006 WOW! Excellent Alec! This can be called "The Ladder of Heaven"...you can't ascend it only by your own powers, and you must take care in this spiritual ascendind at every step, or you could fall ...sometimes fatally. Great work! Alin Link to comment

madhav 0 Posted February 13, 2006 excellent angle Alec, justifies the struggle to climb... are they steps or just a part of the architecture we mistook for steps ? Why would they make it so steep ? Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Thanks guys for coming here. Kalaga, the purpose of the Angkor Wat (12th century AD )was for the king to worship and pray for the protection of his people and kingdom. The temple complex was dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu Sun God. The whole complex occupies an area of 1,950,000 square meters. The numerous temples found there were built with granite and sandstone. Not a single metal bar was used. The rocks used for building came from a place called Plon Klon Mountain, 40 km away. As you know sandstone erodes in time and that is why the steps are practically worn off. The steps are narrow and uneven in width and height - rather dangerous, quite easy to go up but difficult to come down. For those who are adventurous enough to climb to the top, they will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the whole area covered by Angkor Wat. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 13, 2006 Alec, good perspective that gives a good clue to the Angkor Vat Temple. The diagonal crop is helping to understand the difficulty of the climbing. Pnina Link to comment

gloriag 0 Posted April 17, 2007 Great job: this point of view is perfect! I've been there last year and I still remember how much I was scared climbing some temples, especially Angkor Wat! Pictures in your gallery are so beautiful, I will stop again :-) gloria Link to comment
