VERY NATURAL

Justin, I think this is a pretty good result for your first portrait attempt. You have captured a relaxed subject with a view into his eyes. The tones of his outfit work well against his face and the detail and texture in his shirt are sharp. The choice of background is unfortunate, I think, because the contrasting tones and strong vertical division greatly detract from the subject. The white wall is too bright; using just the darker left side would perhaps have worked better. I hope you can get him back there to try again.
