biplab sikdar 0 Posted February 4, 2006 played tactfully with light ... nice snap ... nice composition too ... Link to comment
mitras 0 Posted February 6, 2006 I could do without the added noise and with some light on the eyes. You are probably working with just sunlight here. I like the blurred out background. Link to comment
dchatter 0 Posted February 8, 2006 Biplab... thanks for visiting. Sayan, yes, this is just sunlight, filtering through the foliage overhead; I made no attempts to get a `clean' shot but just a candid. The noise... I'll have to think more about that. Best regards. Link to comment
dchatter 0 Posted February 10, 2006 This is a candid shot, in sunlight filtering through the foliage above. I've made no attempts to modify the photograph beyond imparting a little noise and tone, and mending the border a bit. The fleeting emotion expressed by this little kid is all that I tried to capture. All comments are welcome. Link to comment
sabina dorneanu 0 Posted February 10, 2006 I love the play of lights and shadows here, gives depth to his expression. The noise is interesting too, recreates the illusion of an old analogical camera. Very nice sepia color and crop. Good job, Debasish! S. Link to comment
dchatter 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Thanks Sabina, I'm glad you like it. My primary focus was on his expression. Link to comment
aeiffel 0 Posted February 16, 2006 Debasish,This is by far my favorite shot in your portrait folder, the strong light casting shadows on the face and the boy's expression really make the picture IMHO. Your use of a shallow DOF is interesting but it makes me wonder why you selected his hair on the right as your point of focus ? Wouldn't the right eye be a better point ?Also I'm a bit reserved on the added grain-like effect, I don't think this is necessary to make the picture looks authentic or genuine, it already works well without it.Best, Fred. dchatter 0 Posted February 17, 2006 Thanks for visiting! You are absolutely correct about the point of focus; actually I focussed the left eye, that's the one more in the light and I wanted a little blur (with a shallow dof) on the lips. This little guy kept moving around pretty quickly, and while pressing the sutter I think the alignment was lost. Primarily the expression is the one that I like, and it's perhaps the reason why this photograph works. Now that Sayan and you have told me about the grain, I have to think again on this :-)) Best regards. Link to comment
LorenzaF 0 Posted February 20, 2006 Hello Debasish! I know quite well how difficult is to focus on a constantly moving subject ... my hard disk is full of could-be-nice photos of my children, if only they were on focus. What I do to reduce this problem is to select the sports feature on my lousy camera (the only way I have to increase the DOF - one day I will buy a decent camera), but obviusly then I need a lot of light to avoid blurred photos. The kid in your picture is absolutely lovely; and you really caught the moment here, his expression tells what he is thinking. I also love how light and shadows play on his face, and composition, too. About the grain I don't know, I quite like the softness it gives to the whole picture. Cheers, Lorenza Link to comment
dchatter 0 Posted February 20, 2006 Yes, I completely agree that the sports feature will help inprove the speed of the shot; however it doesn't quite give the flexibility one would probably like :)) Thanks for sharing your thoughts Lorenza, much appreciated. Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted February 26, 2006 This little guy is adorable! His expression and your composition of this shot really make this what it is. As for the grain, it is a bit much. The blurred background is on target, though. Nicely done. Leslie Link to comment
