John G. 0 Posted December 30, 2001 At the risk of repeating myself, the default directions are demanding a note to post. Someday I'll figure it out. This is a springtime offshoot from a strange tree in New England USA. The tree produces these pods from which pours a white fluffy down in such profusion that it appears to be snowing under the tree. In the fall, the branches of the tree break off in segments and fall to the ground where I suppose they would root. A very procreation driven plant! Any idea what tree it is? This is another condolence card, I never seem to get away from them. The twig represents unhappiness and death, while the flowers represent optimism and the future. I photographed it two years ago, digitally, on plexiglass, which allowed me to slip in a blue background and light it independently. What do you think? Link to comment
visual ingenuity 0 Posted December 30, 2001 John, I like the color combination, the use of complementary colors make this composition pleasing and very calm. Where in NE can I find this tree? I have never seen one actually, but will be on the lookout. Link to comment
John G. 0 Posted December 30, 2001 Thank you for your comment and insight into the complimentary colors. That was my intention. The seed pod was dried and dead but the rich and lively color allowed me to present the image as a condolence card without being offensively moribund. The tree I don't know. I only know of one set of three and they produce piles of white spores for about two weeks in April. Link to comment
