will duquette 0 Posted April 9, 2006 This would make a great cover for a science fiction novel. The branch looks extremely alien, and leads the eye into the picture delightfully. The contrast between the dune and the sky emphasizes the one section of the branch that extends skyward. It's a pity, I think, that that section isn't quite as sharp as the foreground. Anyway, I like it a lot. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 50,759 Posted April 9, 2006 I agree with Will, it's a very interesting composition, but it would be way more powerful, in my opinion, if the tree were in focus. Link to comment

dirksville 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Thanks for the comments guys, and if I may respond to the common theme here - the sharpness of the tree; I think the major cause is the scanning process. I've tried a number of scanning methods and I just can?t get the results I am after. The slide itself is nice and sharp, but it loses so much when I scan it. Admittedly the scanner is not high quality, but its not a pile of junk either. I guess its this that is making me more inclined to shoot digital, as much as the purest photographer in me does not want to. Any help with tips and settings on the scanner would be appreciated, its a canon CanoScan 8000F film and slide scanner. Thanks, Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 50,759 Posted April 9, 2006 I bought an Epson Perfection 4870 & I'm very pleased with it so far. It will scan slides as well as negatives. I have nothing against digital, I just never pulled the trigger, but film would still be my favorite. Especially slide film. I tried some Kodak Elite Chrome lately & I like it. Link to comment
