A couple of comments or suggestions (feel free to disagree of course): how about a composition with more space to the left than there is to the right? That way his face is more or less turned into that space? Also, how about a little bit of fill flash - his face is kind of dark right now.

 

That said, I'm nitpicking - you got a great shot here.

Great shot. Good tone and composition too. You are pushing my eyes down, because you cutted at the top. Which is good. This also makes image more powerful and gives stronger conection between feeling of drowning, being without air and the salvation, the expression on the face. Yes, choking atmosphere.

This photo was taken with a single disposable camera (good traduction ?) under water. After a scan of this picture I worked the color and the face under photoshop. I chose this photograph a little by chance after having done developed it in the photographer.

 

I asked the model to emerge from water several times and one shoot was good.

 

I worked this photograph after having seen film "land of dead" ;-))
