Quite honestly I am totally afraid of submitting photos for critique

etc because of the harshness of others on this site... Not

complaining.. only a novice who enjoys photography and, would like to

continue to improve my skills... constructive comments

Very pretty. It's a really tight crop, nice identification photo. Sometimes people leave space for the bird to "move" (such as, in front of it), also with people in some shots. Your choice here is nice, a tad close for my eyes, but nice. Keep shooting!

This is great, there's an X symmetry in the photo. The colours and focus are great too! A bit too closely cropped perhaps. 6/6

Not much need to be concerned about this shot. I think it's very good. The close cropping is okay for me, but I can understand if some people would want a touch more space, especially at the beak. Nice work. What camera & lens did you use for this? The sharpness is excellent.

I just spent some time browsing through your gallery. You describe yourself as "only a novice"??? You under-rate yourself. Your work is very very nice. If you're only a novice then I must be, uh... what's below novice?

Love the color and the opposing directions of the blue jay and the branch. Sharp focus. I agree that more space in front of the bill is needed so the bird has some place to "look" in the photo. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice! Perfect focus, nice color, great exposure.

i'd agree on the need for more space around the bird - front and back. but, other than that, this is incredible. the strong diagonal of both the bird and branch work well. the sharpness and detail are awesome - a true testament to the beauty of this bird. and the color - wow - just amazing.

All that this needs is a little more room. Beautiful color and detail.

Amazing shot Rosie , the details are just marvelous and the colors are so beautiful, i love the diagonal in the composition and the excellent DOF. By the way if anyone would b harsh on this photo you should have his/her eyes,lol. Great job though, you are one talented bird photographer.

great shot, crop is a bit tight and the overall color of this image is too blue, I say that because a bluejay does have white feathers on it somewhere and nothing here is white
