labuenaluz 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Great composition with stunning light once again Marc!, high impact WOW! I love how you worked the foreground curve, that snow cornice is fantastic. Im not bothered by the uncomplete rim, it is indeed a nice starting visual point, did you tilt the camera a bit down for another take?, lets say upper frame where the left group of dark clouds ends, sure would love also this variant. I would really love to go and visit again your great land sometime! Link to comment
skip hansen 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Another winner Marc. I use a 20D right now, I have recently purchased an EOS-3 and a couple of Canon L series lenses (inspired by you)...now, all I need is a pair of snow shoes!!! Thanks for the inspiration to get off the beat and path. Skip Link to comment
bens 0 Posted January 28, 2006 deserving of all the praise, exquisite light over a lovely composition. Link to comment
Erik Lundh 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Marc, This is without a doubt the best image I've ever seen of the lake. The colors, composition and the sunrise really are outstanding. As for the 4-4 rating, I get that all the time. No matter what you do, there will be some idiot giving a low rating with no explanation. Where the hell are the moderators. Link to comment
michaelk 0 Posted January 28, 2006 A lot better than my effort. I think though in my pic I can see you on the ridge. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2773781&size=lg Link to comment
k.c. 0 Posted January 28, 2006 I've been a fan of yours for a while after first seeing your work on betterphoto.com. I think every peice of yours deserves 7's all the way. Thank you for bringing up yourself recieving bad ratings. I feel people can be very unfair here too. Thank you to those who are open minded and and who are'nt the jealous type. Marc, you do amazing work. Thanks! Link to comment

jam50 0 Posted January 28, 2006 A 4/4... dude, you got screwed. I can't figure it out either, there's always some genius who rates on the extremely low end. Whatever. May they live forever trapped in that skull thing of theirs. Regarding this image, Marc, you know it's amazing, the rest of us know it's amazing. That's all that matters. One of your best! I'm headed to Crater Lake myself in May but I'm sure I won't capture anything like this. Cheers! James Link to comment
geoff.... 0 Posted January 28, 2006 I am interested in how the battery on the 5D worked in the 5 day snow trip. Also, in regard to the 4/4, pershaps we should just ask for opinion and not seek a rating? I have been mystified with the odd low rating too? Link to comment
frank_p 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Some 10 years ago we visited Crater Lake on a late August evening. There was still snow and we were the only people around. The quality of the silence was amazing. Although your picture is of a winter time Crater Lake, it captures exactly that atmosphere. Apart from being an excellent picture... Link to comment
satishnair 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Marc, what a stunningly beautiful image! The warmth of the sun and the cold of the atmosphere are palpable in the image, and the landform juttting into the lake strengthens the composition. It obviously took a great amount of effort to get to the location at that time, and you were amply rewarded. Kudos! Link to comment
glenn traver 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Marc, what amazes me as well as the excellent composition is snow shoeing through and area with 200 inchs of snow for 5 days, I would have to say there is and element of risk not be taken for granite.truely beautiful~ GT Link to comment
hannueskelinen 0 Posted January 28, 2006 Marc, have you ever tried PTGui kind of state of art kind software? You can easily multiply your 5D's resolution and wide end of all of your lenses. Link to comment
