marcadamus 1 Posted January 27, 2006 What an unusual place to photograph Crater Lake is. Not only for its unique geographic and geological features, but because you're always looking down at the subject. For years I saw the images from the masses and even some talented photographers that failed to capture the amazing grandeur I thought was inherent of the place. I visited many times before I knew what I was doing with a camera and my images failed as well. The problem seemed to be the inability to show scale, perspective and depth from above (not to mention they don't make a lens wide enough to encompass the whole lake). Things I kept in mind during this trip at all times. A backpacking trip on snowshoes around the 30 mile rim in five days. I wanted a truly vast and dramatic landscape capture of the park and thus far, this has been my best attempt. Link to comment
atdeleted 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Amazing light, amazing colors, great composition (though I think there should be more space on the left side) - an AMAZING photo anyways. Link to comment
fotoguy1 0 Posted January 27, 2006 What an amazing photo! Everything is perfect! Thanks! Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted January 27, 2006 Once again we have some complete moron rating 4/4 and no explaination. Anyhow, thanks for your comments to those who take the time. Link to comment
doug bowles 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Marc, this is...exquisite, for lack of a better word. You put yourself through it to get the shot, and boy, did you get the shot! I don't give many 7's. Where can I see a hi-rez version? Link to comment
smarston 0 Posted January 27, 2006 I think some people rate low out of jealousy,I'm jealous of this shot its fantastic ps it wasn't me who rated low Link to comment
andrea_varetto 0 Posted January 27, 2006 I can only say: suuuuuch a shot! Simply wonderful Link to comment
phil morgan 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Marc Fantastic shot. Your use of nd grads is a joy to behold. I fully sympathise with you on the idiot ratings having been on the recieving end of it myself. Which I find very demoralising as a beginner when some people are rating my attempts much higher. Once again I think to my eye you now have one of the best landscape portfolios on the net, keep up the wonderful work. Cheers Phil. Link to comment
dk. 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Hi Marc, I thought you were gone. I have not seen you for a long time on here and your pictures were gone? Love the Picture by the way, I see you got a 5D must be nice :o) About the moron, There are lots of them out there I have a few that fallow me around too. (work in progress, hint hint lol) and they will aways be out there try to let it go and not take it personally, I know its hard because its your work and you take pride in your efforts but just remember the majority out there love your pictures and the effort you put into them. I wish I could go and see the things you do. You are and have been blessed my friend. DK. P.s. I think your Bio Pic is amazing too! Keep up the great work and enjoy God's creation not everyone gets too. Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted January 27, 2006 Good to hear from you David. I'll have to browse your new work as time allows. I haven't been around much. I left P.Net after being demoralized by the lack of honest critique and coward raters with nothing to say. It's hard for me to convince myself to keep posting images for critique here and rarely getting anything worthwhile. I was lured back by lots of folks sending emails and encouraging me. I must admit it's more of the same though - P.Net has the worst critique system on the net I've seen. I guess I'm sticking around this time though, if for no other reason than to just share the beauty I find in my travels. Link to comment
sharshar 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Marc, this is astonishingly perfect. After reading your remarks about trying to capture this scene, you have done it! I love looking at it, is so soothing and exciting and cold and dramatic, it's all things! 7/7! Link to comment
dk. 0 Posted January 27, 2006 I hear you Marc and I agree with you 100%. As far as the critique system here goes. I am kind of new to Photography myself and am not sure how to Critique very well, I like to leave it to the pro's but if I like a picture I sure will say so. :o) Take care Friend, I have been going kind of slow these days myself. Sure wish I could see the things you see in person though, I am jealous. DK. Link to comment
ketchemr 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Marc, you show the dedication in obtaining your images necessary to achieve a shot like this, and you have been well rewarded for your efforts. Your composition showing the curve of the snow at the foreground, leading my eye toward the lake, then mirroring the flow of the shore, is wonderful. Link to comment
newfocus 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Fantastic. The contrast in scale between the snow detail in the foreground and hills in the background is amazing. Good to see that all that effort has paid off. Link to comment
fotoguy1 0 Posted January 27, 2006 This photo, as every photo in your gallery, gets a 7/7! Incredible! Thanks! Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted January 28, 2006 Marc, as exquisite as they get and a 7/7 hands down. What I like most is the light. The soft glow on the lake and warm hue of the foreground snow. I cannot help wondering though how the photograph would look if you could have included the entire rim - maybe by stitching together two photographs? Again, a truly exquisite photograph and thank you for bringing the beauty right to my living room! Regards, Christoph Link to comment

alaverdy 0 Posted January 28, 2006 just wish it were a little larger (750-800 horizontal pixels) Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted January 28, 2006 Absolutely stunning. The scenery, the light, the colours, the explanation. You made the step from film to digital. Still it looks very much like your usual interpretation of Velvia. What about the capacity of the 5D to shoot in very cold conditions? Did you ever have problems? Following the manual this camera is not made for such conditions. Glad you are back. Karl Link to comment
