I showed this picture to my friends and they told me they missing

"something" but were unable to tell what.

Please tell me your thoughts.

This image grabbed me. I love the way the light sheens off the subject's hair, and the jet black hair itself. The makeup, garment, and pose are good. I agree, this wants to be a great image, but needs something.

 

I had about 5 minutes to play with some ideas. I rotated the image counterclockwise to place the model's face more parallel to the right edge of the frame. I blurred the background and darkened it considerably. I also added a tiny red line to separate the image visually from its surroundings, and then a black frame. My monitor needs adjusting, so it might be too dark. Am I on the right path? What do you think?

Hm, not sure about your fix. Yes it looks really nice. Hoewer I do like the background, makes the image more realistic for me. But the rotation is great improvement, it helps a lot, I believe. Thanks!
