carsten_ranke 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Surely one of the best seascapes here, well deserved POW. Would be really interesting to see what the H3D-39 would make of this motif ;-) Link to comment
KenPapai 37 Posted April 26, 2007 Very nice work Jeff -- where is this located? To me this is what the surface of the new "earthlike" planet might appear, which was just recently found, that orbits the red dwarf named Gliese 581 just 20 light years distant from us. Digital capture can also do what your Velvia 100 capture caught. So well done, aesthetically espcially! Link to comment
jeff_drew4 1 Posted April 26, 2007 When I saw the thumbnail version, I had to look! It catches my attention and immediately I judged it as "Zeiss" sharp and beautifully colored! Very nice! It inspires me to dream of elsewhere! Link to comment
margaret1 0 Posted April 27, 2007 This is exquisite, sirine and tranquil. It feels like soft velvet. What a fanatstic image. It simply carries me away. We all need a spot like this in our lives. Thank you for sharing it. Link to comment
michaelseewald 237 Posted April 27, 2007 A lot of work went into the crops, bummer they disappeared. Even the one that was a link quit working??! Maybe this 450wide, 72k will post. Link to comment
michaelseewald 237 Posted April 27, 2007 the last two visits, no pic's appeared, and now they do. How do you spell strange? Landrum, your post of Jeff's you like (I do too) needs cropping too, the bottom is too heavy with no important detail, that one would be so much stronger cropped too. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted April 27, 2007 I've only seen the posts once during the week. I'd really like to see them. Perhaps, a kind elf could assist? Link to comment
sketch_tbhotmail.com 11 Posted April 28, 2007 I actually think this photo is wonderful. Its interesting because in nature, you often find when at the beach that the sand is typically smooth and water is typically textured. With the high level of texture captured in the sand, its nice to see the water smooth and "milky". So its a bit of a role reversal for the elements. I also really like the composition as the rock shelves lead the eye nicely from the foreground to the background. All in all, very well done. Link to comment
Leaff 0 Posted April 28, 2007 Great color and composition I like the sense of balance you've expressed it comes out in the photo. I'm a little bothered by the darker right edge because it's continuous from top to bottom and seems technicaly flawed even if it's not. I looked at it with the right side cropped and prefered it to the crop chosen. Am I the only one who uses blank sheets of paper against my monitor to recrop the image. Is this weird or do other wantabes do this. I on the other hand like the white on the left. I think it adds to the photograph. In a landscape, is your eye meant to be drawn to just one spot like a portrait. My opinion is it shoudn't a landscape should have a myriad of interesting features that allow the viewer to see many aspects to the photograph. It's what I try to do unsuccessfully. Like the old impressionist painters, hidden details noticed after viewing for a long time. Would be proud to hang on my wall. Thanks for the photo Jeff Link to comment

annat 0 Posted April 30, 2007 It was interesting to look at this photo. The lower right quadrant sand formation resembles the profile of a dog panting. Link to comment
michael anderson 0 Posted May 1, 2007 The subtle color gradations, the smooth sand and the juxtoposition against the sharp rock are very pleasing. The square format is also perfect for this image. Mike Anderson www.lightscapephoto.com Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted May 3, 2007 For me, any crop that removes the shimmering crystalline foreground is a big mistake. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted May 4, 2007 Very nice image, Jeff. POW Was overdue imo. :-) I love the picture posted by Lannie a little better than this POW as well. Yet, the composition of the POW is "cleaner", more perfect in my view, because its foreground, being sharp, is also more attractive, and nicely leads to this splendid rock. That said, I don't quite like the POW's sky color as much as I like it in Lannie's favorite. All in all, your entire portfolio is great, and it's good to see a shot of yours on the front page. All the best. Link to comment
