philgeusebroek 0 Posted December 25, 2001 I had some fun the other day with some frost growing on my window. To me this photo is exceptionally beautiful. However I am the one that shot it so it doesn't count. What do you think? Does it spark your imagination as much as mine? Any comments/criticisms are much appreciated. Thanks, Phil Link to comment
melanie_trowbridge 0 Posted December 26, 2001 I see razor-sharp ferns, bubbles rising from below and frozen mid motion. It's a striking shot. Link to comment
viorel_dragan 0 Posted December 26, 2001 Yes, it's a beautiful image. Reminds me of the colds days, when our windows were frosted... Now, living in Florida, that's only a memory. Link to comment
imaginator 0 Posted December 26, 2001 The cool blue background is perfect for the frosty subject, which by the way is outstanding! Link to comment
alceria 0 Posted December 28, 2001 I really love the pattern of the ice. Great shot. It reminds me of a childhood science project where I preserved snowflakes by spraying them with krylon as they fell on glass - it actually worked! Link to comment
judibrenstein 0 Posted January 2, 2002 Lovely...Makes me want to go light the fire in the fireplace and start the stove for some hot chocolate! Link to comment
noizy 0 Posted January 11, 2002 That is canada 6 months a year. Well 5, since global warming. Link to comment
venkataraman_krishnamurthy1664875502 0 Posted January 11, 2002 At the first glimpse i thought it is graphic design photograph. The rich blue adds to the subject. Good work. Link to comment
arthur sevestre 0 Posted January 24, 2002 Lovely! Have never seen such a picture before! How did you make it? Link to comment
philgeusebroek 0 Posted January 25, 2002 This is a portrait of frost that grew on my bedroom window one cold winter morning. It took a fair amount of repositioning to get the composition and background that I wanted. The pearlescent globules are water droplets that froze as the frost crystals were growing out of them. I wonder what the people across the street thought of the guy setting up a tripod in his bedroom and pointing an SLR at their house. It really is all about one's perspective... :) Link to comment
think27 0 Posted February 9, 2002 Wow... ice fairy's from another planet coming in for a landing... Kidding... It is wonderful/beautiful. I'm transfixed. Great light, great patterns... Absolutely magical and quite unique. Thanks!! Link to comment
mgvaughan.com 0 Posted March 8, 2004 The difference between shapes and texture work well. Composition has a lot to offer. You could even crop various sections to make other photos. Blue background clarifies the frost. It looks like you had fun capturing this. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted March 8, 2004 VERY nice photo, Phil. Just for the record, the freezing of the water droplets had nothing to do with the frost. In frost, water goes directly from the vapor (gas) state to the solid form without going through the liquid state. Nice that you got the frozen droplets and the frost in the same photo, in any case. michael focus97.com lee 0 Posted March 8, 2004 Bad autofocus. You tried to shoot out the window, and all you got were these crystals in the foreground! (note the tremendous sarcasm!!) Great composition, and an eye to match. It's always great to see the detail in the macro world! Wonderful shot! Link to comment
ilkka_nissila 1,948 Posted March 8, 2004 I don't like the colours. The blue is muted, and the shot would be much better if shot using any of a variety of transparency films, such as E100G, EPR, Kodachrome 64, or (shudder) Velvia. IMHO the image needs a crisp, clean, fresh look and that is just missing in the execution here. I would crop 10% off the bottom. Nevertheless, I welcome this type of an image as POW. Link to comment
babette_ross 0 Posted March 8, 2004 Wow that's really cool... i thought it was in an acquraium at first, then thought maybe it was related to xmas... reminded me i've got frost shots on the car window being developed now (the roll had been in the camera a few weeks(!) and i couldn't rememmber all that was on it) Link to comment
chelsea 1 Posted March 8, 2004 I love the composition on this one. It's difficult to find a good pattern in frost crystals, nice catch! Nice and sharp with a good background. I can enjoy the pattern just for what it is, or let my mind wander and imagine all kinds of things from this. Link to comment

What's more important to you though is that we have a bright color to keep interest, eh? Good choice of film and technique here for keeping such wonderfull, natural detail. Link to comment
boz 0 Posted March 9, 2004 Very cool, reminds me of when i was a kid and the windows would freeze in winter! Link to comment
g._r._gooderham 0 Posted March 9, 2004 Once again the skill and imagination of the people on this site amazes me. As I have observed in so many photos the dull and mundane objects in our life hold the same beauty and majesty as the grandest mountain peeks or bleekest desert vistas . EXCELLET capture Link to comment
tito sobrinho 1 Posted March 9, 2004 Outstanding example of a photographer's eye and technique. Great abstract "shot" with colors that doesn't knock your socks off. Delicate but a powerful image. Link to comment
jordan2240 89 Posted March 9, 2004 I thought I was looking at the results of a freak snowstorm in a tropical jungle. Very nice shot. I'll certainly be keeping my eyes open for frosted windows from now on (but hopefully not until next winter). Excellent capture. Bill Link to comment
