January Sunrise

The soft amber glow of an early January sunrise bath the Arizona High

Country with its muted colours.

Very difficult to pick a sunrise as special!

When I first looked at it, I thought that it must be an oil painting by a master, with those subtle hues. It's astonishing that this photo has not been enhanced! Can nature really look like this?

 

I found your photo through a recommendation in an e-newsletter I get, called TIA Daily (The Intellectual Activist Daily). The newsletter has a section called "Things of beauty" and today's recommendeation was this photo. Sherri Tracinski wrote a beautiful review of it. (I clicked the link before I read the review. I always do that, so as not to be influenced before I see for myself.) She, too, was reminded of an oil painting, or rather a school of painting called the "Hudson River School".

 

I wish I could post her critique here, but it's under copyright. I'm a bit surprised she hasn't posted here herself!

A beautiful photo. I especially like the slight ripple on the water's surface. This prevents it from being, yet another mirror image.
