carsten_ranke 0 Posted January 8, 2006 The quality of tones, the delicate toning is astonishing. There is a luminance gradient from upper left to the right side that conveys depth, despite the low-contrast lighting. Good lead-in, nice sky to land ratio. What I like very much is the raising mist. A bit strange for my feeling is the color temperature, I would not expect such a white light at dawn. Anyway, a superb, artful landscape. Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted January 8, 2006 Thanks Carsten and you are right. The title is misleading. This isn't dawn it's midmorning. the reference is rather to the estuary 'awakening' from this fog. Hope all is well with you Carsten... Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted January 8, 2006 Thank you Indre. I would not expect this landscape to appeal to such a young person. That is does, indicates that you already possess a rich sensibility. You will learn much here. Thank you for your comment... Link to comment
leighperry 0 Posted January 9, 2006 More great stuff David. This is so primordial it oozes! It's all about atmosphere, which it has in bucketloads. Excellent work. Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted January 9, 2006 Bubbling, boiling, and as Leigh says, primordial. A border between two worlds. The gradient in the sky really helps keep the balance with the trees. Its like a filled-in trench from WWI. View extra large! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted January 9, 2006 Very mysteriously composed David, is it a road? that leads to the far away foggy and lighted horizon? a water way? A "wispering" image... I think that the play of light here, on the fg. bg. and sky are doing it. beautiful, I'm sure it will be great printed, Pnina Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted January 12, 2006 Agree with Pnina totally. There is a sense of mystery through the light. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted January 17, 2006 Wonderful sot, David, with a light and atmosphere that is quite remarkable. I like the simple lines and composition too. I see you have allowed ratings on this one. If nothing else that will bring the shot to greater visiblitiy on the site. Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Thanks Colin. I have been experimenting with putting my work out for ratings again (with little success). I thought it would be good to have more people see it. Then I realized that really did not increase what is actually most important of all -- the comments I receive for people I respect. For that I am very grateful to you and others, from whom I continue to learn and receive inspiration. Thanks Colin and all the rest of you... Link to comment
jeremy freeland 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Great tones. I agree with Leigh that it oozes atmosphere. Lines and tonal transition in the composition are not too shabby either. Best, Jeremy Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted January 19, 2006 David, I agree about the nonsense of ratings. They mean very little and I often think how great artists would fair on PN. Not very well I suspect! As I see it the value of ratings in a case like this is that a like-minded person who is not yet aware of your work might get to see it for the first time. regards - Colin Link to comment
rjacksonphoto 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Subtle and understated. Has that impressionistic effect without resorting to blur filters, etc. All done with light. Excellent shot. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 27, 2006 David, You've already had comments from several photographers whom I admire and respect. I'll just simply say I concur. I love the subtle color and atmosphere you've captured here. Link to comment
