ellen_francis 0 Posted December 21, 2001 What a captivating photo! At first, I thought this was a shot of a ceiling. Then, I recognized a businessman walking across a marble floor. The blurred figure gives a sense of the speed of business life. Very imaginative composition. Link to comment
marielou_dhumez 1 Posted December 21, 2001 Incredible photo, Julia ! Would you please tell the circumstances of this shot ? Where were you ? and so... You have a very personal viewing of the world and that makes very strong photographs. Thank you for sharing. Link to comment
julia_liu 0 Posted December 21, 2001 Marielou, Im glad you also enjoy such kind of photo. This is a shot of the inner courtyard of a noble bank house from the 5.(or 6.) stock with a tele-photo lens. The lighting was from countless incandescent lamps around each stock. I had luck with this shot, since the shutter speed was only 1/30s (ISO 50, F2.5)! Link to comment
steven_jiang 0 Posted December 22, 2001 Amazing shot, Julia. Thank you for sharing! However, it is also amazing to see this wonderful photo was rated by someone with 3. Such a rating would mean compositional and technical flaws are apparent. The idea/plot is uninteresting and banal., according to the explanation of the grading system you mentioned. As far as Im concerned, this is not true. Finally, even I as a poor No. 349 photographer havent got a rating of 3 for my most unsuccessful shot uploaded on this forum(, yet?). I noticed these people rate your photos with 3 or lower constantly. Obviously, these are not pure photographic ratings. So, dont be demotivated by such things. I would like to see more from you. nomade 1 Posted December 22, 2001 Great shot, quite unusual! I'd have prefered a not blurred subject, and the sense of hurry of the business man wouldn't have being lost. But considerating the adverse lightning conditions, may be there wasn't too much else to do... About the previous comment of low ratings, and considering one of the discussions on this theme fostered recently by you: it's true that some rates are too low. But it's also proved that the time makes justice, and the few low rates are lost in huge amounts of higher rates. The media punctuation finally says the truth. Link to comment
Jim_Tardio 0 Posted December 23, 2001 I like the blurred figure. It gives a little action to the shot. The pattern is very interesting but the figure makes the shot work. Link to comment
yang 0 Posted December 23, 2001 This is an extraordinarily interesting picture - a mixed work of fine arts from static patterns of beautiful marble floor and a dynamic figure of a hectic banker in dull business suit. As Jim pointed out, the rushing figure is the clue of this work. On the other hand, I partly agree with Néstor: The subject must not be blurred so much. From the technical point of view, using a higher ISO of 100 instead of 50 would allow shooting with a higher shutter speed under the same lighting condition, so that the figure could be captured better and the background patterns could look sharper. Personally, I prefer a square format for such kind of picture. I mean, I would like to see more room on top and bottom. Link to comment

ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted December 25, 2001 Beautifully done. I prefer the blurred image over a sharp one of the person Link to comment
