The rider was also flying a few meters on the right side Manfred, and I was alerted but sometimes there should be a little bit of luck David ;-)

That is a picture no matter the number. Right now the number is "UP". Great capture of the moment.JH

Without the rider the picture is empty and meaningless. The background/foreground and composition aren't very interesting.

Lee, after reading your remarks, then viewing your portfolio, and your comments made to others. I had to change my initial reaction to your statements. Seems you ARE, an expert on the empty, AND the meaningless. JH

Well Jim, you'd have to ask yourself - what would make a person sign up on a photography website, use it for years without paying for a subscription, post no photos, and spend the majority of his time tactlessly telling people their photos suck? His opinions are his own, and he's welcome to them on Photo.net - but in the end it's just sad, and nothing years of therapy can't help him with.

 

I think the photo stands on its own just fine - a rider in mid-air would add of course, but this lets you use your imagination to fill in the "blanks." Foreground and background unimportant here, as they eye has no reason to wander.

The fact there is no rider makes the photo even better and more interesting.

I rather like the riderless shot. Somewhat like a pair of gardener's gloves next to his or her tools on an empty bench. There is no doubt in my mind that a human was very much involved in this shot. Hopefully, the rider walked away from the accident. Cheers, Joe.

Well I do like the shot too,and perhaps the question should have been how is the rider. Thanks for the reply Simo I do hope the rider is fine. Actually most do not get injured since the advancement in protective gear.

What a timing. And since the discussion moved toward a rider "with or without" fight, well, I agree with those saying the rider actually IS in the picture, he (she?) is part of the story the picture is telling us. And, accidentally, the fact that he's outside the borders makes the story only more intense. Just my 2c.

Good shot - exceptional, in fact.

The absence of rider allows my imagination to complete the picture, I appreciate that form of challenge. However, I can understand that another might find this empty and meaningless - you asked for critiques, take the good with the bad; many of the best photographs are controversial.

In all honesty, my first impression of this is "Photoshopped." I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but it simply dosen't look real to me.

After viewing your work with photoshop I can see where you might be inclined to have that opinion. But you have to admit that the flying debris is well done. Geeeeez, where do these guys come from? f/64

..I'll post the entire sequence so you can see that the photoshop has been used only to cut the primary subject...
