Mist and Ducks at Sunrise

billkantor

1/8 second at f/22.7 Had to sacrifice shadow detail. The ducks in the water (barely visible here but very clear in a larger image) were a bonus, they showed up just as I was ready to trip the shutter. A straight shot. Contrast and color correction in PS.

Only the most dedicated would be out here at sunrise. It obviously was worth it! Beautiful blues, with great sunlight on the mist. Very nice.

The most pervasive difficulty in Landscape Photography has to be developing a strong thematic focus that guides or even forces the eye to a feature of compelling interest. In this image, I believe you have achieved that. Technically there are things which in my opinion would enhance the image further. Manipulating several of the areas in the foreground to give them just a little more presence so that they do not entirely disappear would be one. By so doing the eye would be guided more gently to the ducks in the background and balance out the image a little better without diluting interest. Also, because the ducks are quite small increasing their contrast so they standout a little more would be another possibility. The composition of the image is very good. I see from this image a strong dedication to the pursuit of beauty in nature. This is indicative of intelligent sensitivity and talent and I wish you continued success in what is a wonderful quest.
