colin carron 58,916 Posted December 30, 2005 I like the grain and the direct look at the camera. I had a Pentax - the MX - loved it. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted December 30, 2005 Hello Nick, another splendid portrait. You have captured the shadow detail in his eye very well, the burn-out on the hand leads to the camera nicely. He bears a passing resemblance to Teddy Sheringham in the thumbnail. P Link to comment

maurik 0 Posted December 30, 2005 Hi Nick, Wow, very nice portrait. Like the look on this one. The other has way too much camera in his face. I wonder about your choice of Hasselblad with 3200 film. Would you have had a similar result with a 35mm SLR, a 50mm f/1.4 lens and ISO 400 film? (You'd actually end up with something less grainy I think, if you used fine grain ISO 400, so maybe ISO 800 or push the 400.) Just wondering.I've not had any time for PN recently. Glad to see that you are still here and producing great stuff.Cheers, Maurik Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted December 30, 2005 As usual the lighting was only that which was available, and I think the exposure was 1/30s at f/2.8. Thanks Colin, I always feel justified when you like my work - the same goes for you Pete. Justin will be flattered when I tell him that he has been likened to Teddy Sheringham! Thanks Annie, I try to create a natural feel when I take someone's portrait. Thanks Maurik - you are quite right about my odd choice of film, and usually I would prefer my autofocus EOS with a 50mm lens at f/1.4 (or my Leica if I'm not a little tipsy!) in this situation, but The Hasselblad is the camera that I had with me, and I am really still experimenting with it. I was away for the weekend hoping to take landscapes with it, but the weather was rotten, so we stayed indoors by the fire. Thanks for your comments, and glad to see you contributing here, as you always have something valuable to say! Fond regards, Nick. Link to comment
