will king 0 Posted December 29, 2005 Nick, I think you've captured the textures in the water and rocks nicely. Excellent composition. I'm just not too sure on the sky. Is it overexposed or just covered with clouds? Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted December 29, 2005 Thanks Will ...just covered in cloud I'm afraid! - it snowed a little later, and for much of the day. What do you think, could photoshop sneak in an appropriate sky to help what I think is a pleasing composition? Regards, Nick. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted December 29, 2005 "What do you think, could photoshop sneak in an appropriate sky to help what I think is a pleasing composition? " Probably so, it actually might be easy adding it in as a layer. You would just need to stitch and blend well. I would just leave it though. I think it captures the raw tundra well. It gives it a sense of brutal frigid cold. You could perhaps use the burn tool just to add some depth to the sky. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted December 30, 2005 I like the strong contrasting tones here - seems to express the ruggedness of the place well. Link to comment
stever2 0 Posted December 30, 2005 I agree with Will in that the sky looks fine the way it is. If you want to Adobe, you might open levels, then use the white eyedropper (right sided one), then use it to set the white point by clicking it on the top of the snow covered rock in the river in the right foreground. This removes a bit of a yellow cast that shows on my monitor.(It may be my monitor). All that aside, I really like the photograph. Steve Link to comment
ricardo navarro 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Hi Nicholas. Nice and balanced composition with good depth here. I am also not bothered too much by the blank sky, but can certainly see the yellowish-greenish cast, and contrast seems a bit too harsh considering the diffuse lighting and the negative's latitude, both of which possibly result from the scanning. I have tweaked it a bit, see above, but of course you have a better chance with the print in hand. Regards. Link to comment
