Thanks Jan Olof, Henri, David, Kim, Richard and Simon.

Henri, David, I was unsure abut including the people and took another shot without them. So I am glad you approve of them!

Kim, thanks. The point about taking two or more shots is that the camera cannot cope with the range of brightness of the light. In this case the sky and sea was much brighter than the foreground land. So - take two shots one exposed for the sea and sky and the other for the land. Then combine them in PS using the ability of PS to change the levels to make the two exposures look natural together. To make the exposures I just select a part of the scene that is an average brightness and let the camera meter do the rest. In this case grass is usually a mid tone and for the sky exposure I assumed an average reading of the sky would do. Not very scientific as you see. You may learn a more rigorous approach from my friend Carsten!

An alternative when taking a single image is to reduce the brightness of the bright bit (usually the sky) using an ND grad filter.

Richard, there are many here who would like less rain but I enjoy every minute (well nearly!) that the water falls from the sky making the land green.

Colin, your use of the 10-22 lens continues to push me to use mine more often. This image has so much going for it - lighting is superb, perspective is dramatic, and the composition and detail is wonderful. I bought an ND grad filter but haven't experimented with it much. You seem to be able to use it to its best advantage. Thanks for sharing this one. Happy New Year from Louisville, Ky.

Been away from PN for a while now.... good to see you're keeping well with the portfolio.

Wonderful photo with that dark, threatening sky and the vivid green grassy slope! You make the English landscape look even more inviting to visit, even despite (or better thanks to?) the (rainy) English climate! (now I only have to convince my husband hereof... ;)

From this sind of the Pond (New England) to yours...a nice way to compleat the gap...and a lot of water between...your light is what we all strive to find...and find it you did...glad to have found you, will visit again !

your summers seem remarkably the same as ours here, anyway, breathtaking background, somewhat in contrast with the 'everyday' foreground.. must have been suggested --but reading so many critiques was bit too much to me-- without the foreground (a landscape of houses and background) it could look a bit more pretending. Another possibility (must have been etc) is to crop just a little under their feet. last is to leave it as it is, and enjoy. (anyway i do).

Thanks Ken, and a Happy new Year back to you too!

Thanks Gul, nice to see you back again and I look forward to your latest shots.

Thanks Ilse, hmmm... the rain can be a bit much sometimes even for me!

Thanks Kim, isnt it good when the public do what you want them to?

Roger, thank you, back across the intervening water...

Alberto, thanks very much - and I'm pleased you like it.

Hans, thanks glad you enjoy it. I can see you also get the same sort of weather as here. Not so much like those French mountains though! I kept the foreground as thought it gave depth and space to the shot.
