spumetastic!

hugo tuffen

1/1000s f8 iso50. i spent a long time trying to catch the moment that the waves hit this rock. as my camera is really slow (about half a second from pressing the button to the shutter opening) it wasn't easy to get the timing right, but this one worked pretty well.

In the name of lighthearted festive fun I went to the beach to get

some spume shots. Here's one of my favourites. The shapes resemble

those that form in basalt lava at Hawai'i, but how can a mixture of

water and air be so viscous? All comments most welcome!

I like the captured moment a lot. It is amazing to see the white drops in air. Do you have a close-up shot, or a cropped one and if you could zoom it, bit more detail... excellent

hey thanks john and andrey, i'm glad you think it was worth me geting bootfulls of seawater! i've not got any close-up shots of the foam, although that's a great idea and something i'd like to try. a wet camera would be a bit of a disaster, though..! i tried cropping to just leave the "explosion" part on the right but it doesn't look so good. i'll be back on the beach tomorrow so let's see if i can catch some more foam! cheers, hugo.
