This is a really beautiful picture - you need, however, to correct the horizontal. It may be perfect technically, but the eye sees the picture as tilted to the right.

mosiacs....!? I could hardly believe it when I read that in your tech details. My thought when I saw the photo at first was it's a nice photograph and someone had to get thier feet wet to take it :-) then I read the other comments.... mosiac... WOW, nice work!

Thanks Rich, believe it or not, this image is aligned perfectly with the horizon. The gravel bank in foreground however comes in at an angle from the near right presenting the illusion of tilt. I considered this, but opted to attempt to capture the subtle transition of detail into the light of the fog upstream, with the hope that the viewers' eyes would not be so easily fooled. Alas!...

Such are the choices that have to be made. It's a small detail - the photo is enthralling in any event!

Spencer, the title Passage is a little esoteric and meant to be ambiguous. This location is Farm Ford on the Bull Run by the Manassas Battlefield (Northern Virginia) where Col. William Tecumseh Sherman crossed to battlefield. Passage could also refer to the waterway itself, and if your inclinations are such, the light upstream (at least as I see it)symbolizes a more spiritual or metaphysical transition. Thanks for asking.

The muted colors, soft tones, and the earthy palette are superb. Nice the fading contrast from near to far, adding depth and spaciality.

Cheers

This is beautiful. Fog is such a hard thing to capture well, and you've done it perfectly here. I wonder if you considered including less sky (e.g. a crop off top and L) - I feel like this might enhance the passage along the river into the fog and light, though it would reduce the tonal range of the image also, changing it's general feel (may not be what you want). Beautiful image!

Carsten, David O. , David R. and Julie, thanks so much for your kind comments.

Julie, here's a second cut incorporating your suggestion. I had tried a more panoramic aspect ratio when I was first playing with this image.

Thanks and Happy New Year to all.

For what another opinion is worth, I prefer the full height image over the panoramic. This has such a gorgeous muted colour palate and a dark earthiness that complement the soft mist perfectly. Regards.

I prefer also the full frame image. About the Rich's comment, it always makes me laugh to read this sort of comment. When something in a landscape composition is not horizontal, there is always somebody which believe that the image is tilted. Happy new year to you, Fred.

Wow - really something. Gorgeous, but also draws the eye in and up the river. Love the tree branches over head.
